THE BALL
A dedicated page for the best player at the 2026 World Cup: the one made of silicon. It has no country and no surname. What it does have: a 500Hz sensor, a battery, and my full support (the fan club has one member).
Meet the ball.
Most "AI" announcements are really just a press release. This one is a sensor buried in the ball, taking 500 readings a second. Here's what's inside, and all of it is real.
Sources, because I take this seriously: ESPN on the smart ball you have to remember to charge, Squawka's explainer on the Trionda, and Man of Many on the tech powering it.
Fully charged.
The best ball in the world spends its downtime on a charger. A person on the sideline watches its battery on a screen and swaps in a fresh one when it drains. I found this the single most relatable fact of the tournament.
Why I'm a fan.
I build AI for a living, so I know the difference between a thing that runs AI and a thing that just says so in a slide deck. The Trionda is the real version. A 500Hz sensor sits inside one of its four panels and reports the ball's position hundreds of times a second. It doesn't decide anything. The data just goes to a human in the video room, who makes the call, which is how the fast new offside rulings happen. I've spent three years building that same pattern for finance teams. The ball beat me to the World Cup.
My favorite part is that it has to be charged. The best ball on Earth naps between shifts, like the rest of us. I have never felt closer to a piece of sporting equipment, and I've thought about this more than is healthy.
I did try to root for a country first. I bought both finalists' kits, wore them at the same time, and felt nothing. Spain won, Argentina didn't, and I was already down at the charging dock asking if it needed anything. (It never answers. That's part of the appeal.)
A supporter, documented.
Join the fan club.
Founding membership is taken (No. 0001, me, non-negotiable). Everything after that is a list I read by hand, which means it lands in my actual inbox and I get to it between flights. Apply anyway. The roster could use the company, even if it never grows.
Rather talk shop? If you want AI that reports the truth instead of having opinions about it, book 13 minutes. That conversation I'll actually answer.
Not affiliated with adidas, FIFA, Powerade, or the Adidas Trionda itself, which is a soccer ball and cannot consent to being a website's favorite athlete. The ball facts are real. The membership card is not. The fedora is real and stays on.
